Am I Talking To Myself?

So sometimes I wonder when I write these little snips and snaps of my life if anyone is even paying attention or if I am just rattling on like a loon to my crazy self. So if you are reading my drivel, just make a comment on this post so that I know you're visiting. I am not trying to drum up readers. I'm just curious who my audience is. :)

I'm Fat and It's Tuesday

 

 

 

 

Oh wait. That's not how that is supposed to go. Happy Mardi Gras! *hee hee* We won a party sponsored by Zatarain's from www.houseparty.com and so we threw party #2 in as many days. Phew! I'm exhausted. In the kit that was sent to me was 5 feather masks, beads, doubloons, Jambalaya mix, Red beans and rice mix, Creole mustard, Creole seasoning and root beer extract along with a few coupons. The agreement was that you would make at least one thing with each ingredient. Seriously... ROOT BEER EXTRACT.

So we made sausage and chicken jambalaya, red beans and rice, shrimp gumbo, and I used the Creole seasoning to make Creole shrimp with French baguette. So that left the Creole mustard and root beer extract. For the Creole mustard, I made a veggie dip. It was spicy, but the sour cream tamed it down. And for the root beer extract, I made root beer and then served root beer floats. We also had king cakes (one cinnamon and one chocolate) and Hurricanes.

So everyone must have thought the food was decent because they asked if they could take some home to their spouses. It worked out well. We had tons of leftovers so I am sure to be eating Cajun for at least 1 more meal in the very near future.

The kids loved the horns, hats, beads and eating icecream!

 

 

 

 

President's Day Playdate

 
 
 
 

So as you saw in my previous post, we made powdered wigs and tricorn hats today in honor of President's Day. The craft really isn't hard, but it was fun. You need about 1/2 a bag of regular cotton balls, a white painters cap, a little piece of ribbon and glue. (We used a hot glue gun because it holds the cotton balls better and dries quickly.) So you just take your painters cap and make rows of glue and let the kids put their cotton balls on it as close together as they can. Then you tie a ribbon in the middle of the brim and have the child wear it backwards. Voila! Powdered wig ala George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and all those Founding Fathers that we read about in our history books.

A fun piece of trivia is that James Madison was the last US President to don a powdered wig and knee britches in 18th Century fashion according to www.wikipedia.org.

My Valentine Date: The Wiz!

 
 
 
 


Today Ian and I went to VLA to see The Wiz. Ian liked the show, but it was a tad too long for his attention. I think we may need to stick to the children's theater productions. He did enjoy all the colors and knew the story, but he was squirrely at the end. We did stop and meet the actors on our way out. Ian really liked the Tin Man and the Witches. Then we made a special visit to two ladies. My friend Knitter's daughters were Emerald City folk and were a part of some singing and dancing numbers. It was a great show. I especially enjoyed the Crows and their dancing and the Yellow Brick road dancers.

Favorite Photo of Us

Today (er uhm I mean yesterday's) topic in the blog hop is to post your favorite photo of you and your man. Well here is Bill and me at my first formal ball with him. We weren't engaged yet, but were both pretty sure that this was "it." It was my first taste of true military formalities. I was a little nervous attending, but I remember Bill easing right through it. I believe this was the end of October/early November 2002. We used it as our formal engagement photo after the fact since we didn't really have time to get real ones.
