1st Cav Horse Barn Tour

We had a great morning touring the 1st Cavalry Division Horse barn on Ft Hood this morning. It's a free tour and the kids had a wonderful time. Well worth the time and energy to get out there. I only wish I had brought a bag of carrots with me.

We were first shown the offices before visiting a few horses and mules. The soldier gave the kids horse treats to feed them and said that they love apples and carrots so next time we go we will take some with us. After seeing a few horses, we went to see a few horses getting pedicures. When Caitin, our little friend, asked if they got their nails painted she wasn't disappointed. The civilian manning the horseshoeing area went to the cabinet and pulled out horse nail polish. :) too funny!

From there we visited the boot making and saddle making area. We were told about making boots and saddles and then continued on to see the tractors and wagons. The kids were allowed to climb up on the equipment and into the wagon. Then we fed a few more horses before stopping up front for a picture on the mascot horse. He really isn't supposed to be ridden on, but the soldier said our kids were light enough that he'd make an exception. :)

So if you live in the Ft Hood area and have never taken advantage of going to the 1st Cav Horse barn, you really should stop by. You don't even have to go through the security check point so it is easy access to both military and civilian families!
