YUMMY Food and Shopping!

 


So we got to our hotel room, hung out for a little while and then set out to go to a restaurant that we have here in the relatively local area called BJs. Well, when we got to where BJs was, we noticed that they had a Carrabba's which we don't have around here and is one of our favorites. So we ditched the BJs idea and had Carrabba's instead. I snapped this photo of the boys outside after dining while Bill went to get the stroller. We were right next to a mall and decided to do a little retail therapy! There is quite a lot to be desired when you shop at the local mall, so this was great to just go into the normal mall stores that I am used to and look around. I picked up some things to send to our nephew in California from Gymboree and also picked up some make up for myself at Sephora. I also got my wedding rings cleaned. They were so dirty and nasty. It was amazing how nice they looked afterward!

Saturday's Unexpected Stop

 


Bill had reserved a hotel for us when he was still Afghanistan for this weekend in Irving, TX. He wanted to go see the Rays play the Rangers and we used our Hilton Honors points to get the room for "free." So we got a bit of a late start because Bill took Ian to Home Depot and we really had no reason to hurry since we had ZERO plans for Saturday evening. So we got into the car around 11am and I was feeling a bit hungry. Well, I tend to get nauseated when I am hungry and in the car riding unless we stop and I eat and get my limbs back under me. So me feeling woozy insisted we stop in Waco and Bill suggested one of our favorite Mexican places called Don Carlos'. We shared fajitas and the boys had chicken tenders and flautas. Well even though I ate, I still wasn't feeling 100%, so since we have a membership to the Mayborn Museum and Bill hasn't been there we decided to go ahead and stop there for a little while. The kids would get a chance to run off some energy and hopefully would sleep the rest of the way to the Dallas suburbs. I wasn't wrong! The kids had a great time and Bill and I did, too! It was the perfect way to break up the car trip and by the time we resumed our ride, I was feeling much better!

Home Depot Workshop by Ian

 


The first Saturday of each month Home Depot hosts a workshop for kids to build something in their stores. Ian has done one other project and so Bill decided to take him today. I couldn't go so I armed Ian with my snappy camera hoping to get a glimpse of what he saw. I got 93 snapshots of all sorts of interesting things, so I thought I would share a select few with you. Ian was incredibly proud of his project, got a new pin for his orange apron and hopes that he can go again next month!

Lions Club Aquatic Center

 

 

My friend Kelly had an unfortunate experience on Wednesday. It seems that the Killeen Lions Club Aquatic Center does a really crappy job of make sure their website and hours are correct so she showed up with her 4 year old son on Wednesday to swim only to find out that it was closed. There were KISD kids in there on a field day, but no members of the public were allowed in. Because their website led everyone to believe that they were open after Memorial Day, my friend went home pretty upset and decided to call. Well, she was told that they were sorry, but there was nothing they could do. She asked for a manager who was unavailable. Well later that afternoon, the manager called her and told her that a private party had cancelled for Friday afternoon and that it could be had by us if we were willing to pay the price. Well, the price was right and we got the waterpark all to ourselves from 1 to 3pm yesterday afternoon. Can you say AWESOME? Because it was!

Today we went back to one of our favorite places, the Mayborn Museum in Waco! They are showing the Lego Castle exhibit that originated at the Indianapolis Children's Museum. It's pretty cool and the kids in our group really enjoyed it. They have Legos to build with and all sorts of games and dress up and it's a pretty neat deal if you are 4 years old! Of course, I became the "mother of the year" because my Aaron decided to take off when I turned my back on him for 2 seconds. Yes, he left the exhibit and I finally found him in the gift shop. YIKES!

Memorial Day Recap

 
 
 
 
Yesterday we spent most of the day nursing our allergy symptoms until it was time to head to the park for a picnic/cookout with friends. The kids all brought their bikes/trikes and we enjoyed watching them take off! Ian had never really ridden his bicycle so it was a first for him. He had a few frustrating moments and we had to encourage him to push through them. He prevailed though he wasn't as fast as the other children. Aaron hasn't quite figured out the tricycle, but he enjoyed sitting on it and pushing himself along.
